Athletes are able to test themselves in a format unlike any other ultra-marathon event. In order to meet their goal of 3100 miles (4989km) in 52 days, they must log an average of 59.6 miles (95.9 km) per day. The runners begin at 6 a.m. and run for extended periods throughout the day, taking breaks as needed. If they want to, they can continue as late as 12 midnight when the course closes for the night. After completing the race, runners have the option of continuing on to complete 5000km. Full details »
The race has been extensively covered by media around the world, including the BBC, Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Media coverage »

The day's news from our associate race director Sahishnu Szcsesiul, as well as videos and photos.
A race to 1,000 miles, and a national record
Annabel Hepworth reached 1,000 miles in 15 days, 12 hours, 21 minutes and 10 seconds (YT Short video). It is the second time she has covered the distance; in the 2024 race she ran 15 days, 11 hours, 32 minutes, 42 seconds.
The overall Australian record belongs to Dipali Cunningham of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, who ran 13 days, 20 hours, 18 minutes, 40 seconds in a stand-alone 1,000-mile race at the Sri Chinmoy Ultra Trio in New York in September 1997. Dipali's time still stands among the best women's 1,000-mile performances of all time in the DUV archives, and remains the Australian open record nearly thirty years on.
To our knowledge, Sarah Barnett is the only other Australian woman to have reached 1,000 miles in a certified race. She ran 18 days, 3 hours, 9 minutes, 35 seconds at the Sri Chinmoy 3,100 in 2014.
Wei Ming Lo also reached 1,000 miles today, in the early evening sunshine. It is the fifth time he has run the distance.
A race to 1,000 miles, and another national record
Later in the evening, we were intrigued to see whether Vasu or Nayaja would get to 1,000 miles first. They seemed to be running the same lap, one taking a small break, then the other.
In the end Nayaja reached it first, in 15 days, 16 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds — just three and a half minutes before Vasu, who recorded 15 days, 16 hours, 6 minutes, 15 seconds.
Our research suggests Nayaja is the first Italian woman to reach this distance, making hers the inaugural Italian women's record for 1,000 miles. We would welcome any information from other runners on this.
Her longest run to date came at the Sri Chinmoy 10-Day Race in April this year, where she recorded 966.572 km, or 600.599 miles. Every step from here on is beyond anything she has done before.
Vasu is no stranger to going past 1,000 miles, being a 13-time finisher of the 3,100.
