Day 3 - A Special Visitor

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

 

Early this morning, at 9 a.m., the race received a special visitor.

Tom Chih-Chiang Lee, Director General (ambassadorial rank) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, came to see the race. He also serves as head of the UN affairs task force in New York.

He made the visit to meet Taiwanese ultrarunner Lo Wei-Ming, who enjoys huge support in Taiwan on the strength of his success in multi-day running. Among his many achievements, he is a four-time finisher of the Sri Chinmoy 3,100 Mile Race. At his last 3,100-mile race, in 2024, he set several 60-plus Masters records at both national and world level.

Also present were representatives of the Taiwan Blind Runner for Charity Association, who are in New York for a short stay with several aims. Naturally, they want to support Wei-Ming in his current endeavour. They have brought two blind runners with them from Taiwan, and we are honoured that these runners have covered a few laps of the 3,100-mile course to raise awareness of their own efforts to transcend considerable difficulties. While in New York, they are also connecting with the local Taiwanese community.

Director General Lee entered into the spirit of the event and wore a 3,100-mile T-shirt. He ran a few laps of the course with Wei-Ming, then put on a blindfold and ran a couple more with the blind runners to show solidarity with their cause.

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is grateful that Director General Lee found time in his busy schedule to come and show his support for the race, for Wei-Ming, and for the Taiwan Blind Runner for Charity Association.

As the Day Progressed

  • Italy's Andrea Marcato passed 70 miles again, recording 75.1 for the day and becoming the first runner to reach 200 miles in the race. He ended on 245.7 miles.
  • Annabel Hepworth went through 200 miles at around 8:30 pm. She finished with 64.7 miles for the day and a total of 207.8, opting for an early night at about 10:30 pm.
  • Radu Budan followed her through the 200-mile mark some eight minutes later. Staying on the course until later in the evening, he closed with 66.4 miles and a total of 211.7 to lie in second place.
  • Vasu Duzhiy reached 200 miles an hour after that, shortly before 10 pm, and finished with 63.7 miles — leaving him level with Hepworth on 207.8 and sharing third.
  • Lo Wei-Ming clocked 63.1 miles to total 198.

Although it is still early days, you sense that our two other female competitors are evenly matched. Nina Huang-Lan Yang ran 62 miles to total 195.8, while Nayaja Perugini clocked 63.1 to leave her just under four miles behind on 191.9.

  • Ananda-Lahari Zuscin, after his big effort yesterday, ran a more measured 52.6 miles today, leaving him on 185.4.
  • Stutisheel Lebedev also covered 52.6 miles, closing the day on 160.1.
