I didn't know the true meaning of this race until 2019 when I fortunately visited the site.
Not only is Andrea aggressive with his start but also at water stops. I have yet to see him stop to grab a cup. I liked his answer.
I often wonder how my father would approach this race. I'm certain it would be similar to Wei Ming getting off the course significantly earlier than the others. Here's a chart of my father's 3 consecutive day labor day weekend runs twice around Manhattan Island.
His best time as of 1969 was 8:59:14.
I could see my father, if doing this race before 1973, running for 10-12 hours and walking 2 hours as recovery. I believe he could do this for many days (52 - I'm not sure) absent a major injury. In reviewing his training diaries he was injured more often than I ever knew. He had the ability to self heal himself.
I could also see him renting an apartment near the course and doing course measurement and other paperwork like he always did after dinner. His 20 mile morning run to work also started at 6a.
Your daily videos are outstanding.
Thank You!
