Wei Ming and Annabel reach 2,000 miles, and some special mail arrives

With the weather much improved and the storm now blown through, the runners seem to be settling back into "normal" autumnal New York weather.

mailOver the last couple of days, many of the runners received something very special — handwritten mail. The letters were written to individual runners by elementary school students at Free Union Country School in Charlottesville, Virginia. The runners and race staff were charmed and deeply touched.

Some of the children mentioned that they had also written letters last year, but those were mistakenly sent to the country of Jamaica rather than Jamaica in New York. It was lovely to see how happy and eager even the most focused runners were to take the time to read their mail. They are all planning to write back to the children at the end of the race.

A big thank you to the teachers, Blair, Amberley and Michael Scott, for making something so special happen, and to all the children for their heartfelt letters.

Don't forget that you can also send the runners your own encouragement, via the "Message the runners" tab on the race homepage,
