A beautiful morning greeted the runners, as Andrea Marcato was the first to pass the 1,000 mile mark. Vasu Duzhiy, a three-time winner, is this year currently in 2nd place with just one lap needed for the 1,000 mile mark. Over the next two days, most of the other runners are set to mass the mark too.
Early this morning barely two hours into the race, Andrea Marcato became the first runner in this years Sri Chinmoy 3,100 mile race to reach 1,000 miles. It was the 6th time he had reached this little milestone in his life but only his 4th fastest.His previous efforts are listed below. Although starting the race very well, and still looking good, he does not seem to have had his usual fluidity.

The fastest ever 1,000-mile split in the Sri Chinmoy 3,100-mile race was set by Madhupran Schwerk of 12 days + 15 Hours 56 Mins 40 Secs. In 2006 the year that he ran 41 Days +08:16:29 when setting a new 3,100 mile record. Ashprihanal Alto ran slightly slower, clocking 12 Days:17:19.40 on his way to setting the current 3,100-mile record of 40 Days 09: 06 :21 in 2015. For the women, Taiwanese athlete, Tsai Wen-ya, set the fastest 1,000 mile split in the 3,100 in 2023, clocking 14 days 08 Hrs 08Mins 08 Secs.
As far as the overall 1,000-mile road record goes, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team has led the way in organising opportunities for this.The legendary Greek runner Yiannis Kouros has the best ever recorded time for 1,000 miles with a phenomenal 10 Days 10 Hours 30 Minutes 36 seconds. This was set in the Sri Chinmoy 1,000 mile race in Flushing Meadow Park in New York in May 1998.
A few years earlier New Zealand’s Sandy Barwick had recorded the best ever women’s 1,000-mile time of 12 Days 14:38:40,, which even more remarkably was a split time in that years Sri Chinmoy 1,300-mile race. The majority of recorded 1,000 mile times, on certified courses, have been in races organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in New York, The Sri Chinmoy 1000 mile races along with the 1300 mile and 2700 mile races were the precursors of what is now the 3100 mile race.
