News of Megan Eckert's new six-day record reaches the 3,100

At times it seems as though everyone involved in the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3,100 Mile Race is living inside a self-contained bubble. Early this morning, though, news reached us from the outside world of Megan Eckert's remarkable new six-day record, set at the EMU race in Balatonfüred, Hungary.

She covered 1,024.319 kilometres, or 636.482 miles, averaging over 106 miles a day across the six days.

As is well known, the 3,100 Mile Race has a mandatory six-hour break overnight. The committed six-day runner enjoys no such luxury. There is no compulsory break; short sleeping breaks are planned between the runner and their crew, but essentially you are on the go the rest of the time — especially if you have designs on a big distance.

For a woman to break the 1,000 km barrier is a genuine milestone for women's multi-day running and, in the words of the founder of the 3,100 Mile Race, Sri Chinmoy, true self-transcendence in action.

News of the record, and of the 1,000 km barrier falling, is an inspiration to all the runners at the 3,100 as they seek to transcend themselves too.

Tarit has written a few words on the race, along with a breakdown of Megan's splits. You can read it here:
