Day 5

Day 5 started with very strong rain for approximately two hours, then  it became clear and warm. The evening got a little cooler than the previous evenings.

In the afternoon one of our Race Directors from New York arrived in Salzburg, which gave us all ( helpers and runners) a lot of joy.

As he neared the Race site he was already invited by an enthusiastic elderly lady to give an interview about the Race, which he right away obliged.

Andrea pushed right away from the morning and reached impressive 116 km (72 miles) just two minutes before midnight. He has been the Day leader every day so far. And this after having his favourite pair of shoes in the clothes dryer for the whole day, after the heavy rain in the morning. Imagine if he would have had his fast shoes.....

Nirbhasa closed the day at 23:30 with solid 99 km. He looks strong, confident and cheerful. As last year, Yahva tries to help him a little, when time allows.

Yahva is also working as a general helper for the race. Many thanks to him and Nikolaus who cover the whole day so selflessly. They fill the aid stations, receive and distribute food items, keep the place clean, and even score laps if necessary.

Ananda-Lahari was the surprise of the day. Running strong until evening he went smilingly home at 21:00 reaching 85,5 km. Saying that he could not find any rhythm anymore. Still he held third place on this day 5 with 300 miles- 484.2km total.

Milan struggled with chafing and strong knee pain. Nevertheless with his unbroken spirit, he covered 84,5 km and went home at 23:25.

Ushika's comment on day 5: 'Only descend and descend, from super slow to slower than the slowest!' Still 82 km, we hope faster days will approach him soon. His humour is still in full bloom.

The police were checking the river side of the course, which gave the look as if they were chasing Ushika. He proudly mentioned 'they could not catch me!'
