Smarana finishes his third 3100 Miler...

Smarana Puntigam reached 3100 miles for the third consecutive year in 49 days+11:12:33, amidst a jubilant reception of friends and well-wishers. Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk will finish Monday morning as he only has 12 miles to go. Arpan DeAngelo passed the 3000 mile mark, becoming the first over 50 age-group runner to reach this milestone(49 days +16:52:17).

Tejvan organises short-distance running and cycling races for the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in his home city of Oxford. He is also a very good cyclist, having won the National hill climb championships in 2013 and finished 3rd in the National 100 Mile Time Trials in 2014.

Andrea Marcato, the 41 year old Italian who has dominated the previous three versions of the Sri Chinmoy 3100 Mile Race, passed the 1000 mile mark in a personal best of 13 Days+07:12:25, the tenth best performance on a road course in long-distance history.

He passed his own best by nearly nine hours and seemed ready to continue his efforts as there are still 2,100 miles to be covered before his efforts will be complete. Tomorrow, on Wednesday, the Taiwanese woman Tsai Wen-Ya, currently in second overall, should finish her first 1000 Mile performance. We will see another great performance in the world's longest race, although there may be more rain showers on Wednesday morning from 6:00 a.m. to midday. We shall see. Wen-Ya has 33.5 miles to reach the 1000 mile mark.

Andrea Marcato holds the lead in the 27th Sri Chinmoy 3100 Mile Race, with 969.03 miles, as the Italian approaches the first 1000 miles to be covered on Tuesday for sure. He holds a 68-mile lead on second place, which happens to be the first lady - Tsai Wen-Ya, who touched 900.48 miles (1449.2 km) on Monday evening just before she called it a day.

Wei-Ming Lo from Taiwan is comfortable in third place with 831.9 miles. All the runners enjoyed the cooler temperatures, but the evening thunderstorm on Sunday night (for four hours) of water and minor floods did not equal the weekend storms. Vasu Duzhiy remained focused and totaled 803.92 miles. He was followed by Nina Yang Huang-Lan who reached 801.77 miles and equaled her best starts from years ago. Mahasatya Janczak continued his solid approach to his first 3100 Mile Race, reaching 786.93 miles. Harita Davies from Christchurch New Zealand moved within inches of Mahasatya, as she equaled 786 miles.+.41 miles. The first American in the 3100 Mile Race since 2017- Jason Lester from Phoenix, Arizona reached 763.38 miles. With the 3100 Mile Race approaching its third week, now is the time to see how the runners are ready to remain focused and in the race. We shall see! The Race is moving along, with 39 days left.

Andrea Marcato worked hard to overcome a few rain storms that pummeled the area, both in the late morning, and then last night, as storms continued to test the runners of the 3100 Mile Race.

Mr Marcato reached 898.29 miles, having remained nearly 68 miles ahead of Tsai Wen-Ya, who reached 830.29 miles, and easily leads the total of five women who are maintaining their running tests on the daily basis of searching for more than 59.618 miles per day, needed to acquire the 3100 Mile Race to finish in the 52 day framework. Taiwan male hero distance runner Wei-Ming Lo totalled 769.96 miles in a dozen days to hold his effort to third overall.

10-time finisher Vasu Duzhiy, a three-time winner of the longest race, has helped his position to stay at fourth overall, with a good effort of 742.54 miles. He needed to maintain the position because of the steady serge from Nina Huang-Lan Yang, the lady who has put pressure on other runners as she is the third Taiwanese to attempt the longest race.

Somewhat cooler weather saw the runners complete good mileage yesterday, Andrea Marcato extended his lead at the top of scoreboard, with his 11th consecutive 70-mile-plus day. Wen-Ya Tsai, the leading woman and 2nd place overall, continued her excellent consistency with a near 67-mile day. Stutisheel Lebedev continued his post-illness recovery with another 60-mile-plus day. But, the race is much more than mileage on the scoreboards with all runners engaging in their own journeys of self-transcedence and self-discovery. This coming week, the weather will be cooler, but with some prospects of rain. Stay tuned for the progress of the race. Note in the scoreboard section, we now have live updates of the runner's mileage.

The group of 14 have passed the 10th day with some more positive energy, as the hours of hot air and humidity gave way to cooler applications of light rain and hidden burning sun tendencies.

Andrea Marcato totalled 756.25 miles, which was past his 10 Day Total at Flushing Meadow Park, in our Spring version of the Ten Day Race, where he ran 720 miles miles in second place. Third Place overall in April was Tsai Wen-Ya, who reached 671.6 miles, her best and first 10 Day Race, going past 1000km. Today, after five days of a late summer heat wave tendency, Wen-Ya reached 694.83 miles/1118.2 km, in another personal best. And with 42 more possible race days to fulfill, the longest footrace is testing all 14 runners. Let's look at everyone’s reality Dream Race.

The supposed heat wave + Five had the intense sun strength to make us all stay inside, with the fan on top speed, except, of course, for the runners in search of destiny and a rise to the top of the lists - except for us ‘helpers inside for the search for colder areas’. Actually, the helpers on duty are suffering for their shift, just as others have, and will again this afternoon and evening.

The runners retained their effort today, as the temperature reached 95º again. Luckily the temps droped and the sky was somewhat covered over in gray skies. Andrea Marcato toped 685.5 miles. Tsai Wen-Ya received 629 miles to maintain her incredible effort. Wai-ming Lo retained third place overall with 580.7 miles. Vasu Duzhiy moved into fourth place, reaching 565.9 miles. The big surprise was Nina (Huang Lang-Yang) reaching fifth overall with 559.92 miles. She has sensed the need to be as consistent as possible, to finish this 3100 Mile event, which is her year-long effort. She finished about 0.5 miles ahead of Adrian Papuc (559.37 miles).

Tomorrow is Day 10, a modest milestone, but a somewhat cooler day. We shall see!

The very warm and inhuman weather today tried to slow everyone down, but the strong and remarkable runners continued their quest to challenge all things in front of them. Whether it was distance to conquer, the stiff sidewalks to tread, the food and drink to be absorbed , and the need for the body to stop and relax when anything too long is more trouble to overcome. 93º to 95º temps all over the area around the slightly longer than half a mile, with traffic and trucks rolling by on the north side of the course - these things are just part of the distraction that is the 3100 Mile Race. Not to mention the course changes direction every day.

The Day 8 Race resulted in several runners continuing their best available efforts. The overall leader Andrea Marcato reached 614.2 miles to extend his lead to nearly 50 miles over Tsai Wen-Ya who continued to lead the women with 564.8 miles. Wei-Ming Lo remained solid in third place, reaching 517.8 miles. Mahasatya Janczak held fourth place with 506.7 miles. Vasu Duzhiy and Adrian Papuc held fourth and fifth with 502 miles and inches apart from each other. With one more hot day, the runners have nearly overcome the first test. We will see how they will shine - inside and outside.

The summer season is still touching the New York area with intense heat, and the possibility of hurricanes pushing up the coast, if the worse things might happen. However, the super-long distance runners are just taking one day at a time.

Andrea Marcato, Italy’s hero, and Taiwan’s new distance speedster Tsai Wen-Ya retained their first and second places. No surprise in third overall, in 92º heat, Wei-Ming Lo moved in the common position, reaching 68 miles and smiling over his movement through the heat.

Mahasatya Janczak from Poland and Adrian Papuc from Romania held their fourth and fifth positions and seemed smooth throughout the boiling afternoon heat.

Tomorrow supposedly will be very hot, with temps moving towards 95º and more difficulties. After the two approaching heat days, cooler temps and rain will replace the mid-summer tests.

In the historical list of long-distance runners and their events, to this day, the six day is the most often found in our sport. The 3100-mile race is multiple “six days” placed together-sometimes as many as eight or nine of them together. Yet, this combined activity has become commonplace to these athletes.

The multiple days together becomes the reality of the 3100, but the ‘shorter ‘ distance is a springboard in the beginning of the event, to the forefront of the new distance, the vastness, which becomes the reality. Remember - a world class individual record of 16 finishes of the 3100 for men, and 13 in a row for women, shows us the distant goals, which becomes the reality to the Seeker Runner of the 3100 Mile Race. The future moves on!

The first of five warm days touched upon the long-distance runners, as the temps passed 90ºF. The energy from Day 1 has continued through the fifth day, and lots of cool drinks and ice were added to the fray.

The top six runners have maintained their positions, or changed by small amounts either up or down. The other eight are carrying on, with the hopes that running long every day will kick in and be the next possible athletic miracle. It seems that all fourteen athletes are devoted, in so many ways. We as observers tend to watch for the fastest, the most smooth or the most outstanding runner since the longest race first became a thing in 1997.

If you are ready to find out: To no surprise, the three-time winner of the longest race has put on his fastest shoes since Day 1, Andrea Marcato reached 300 miles today: 108:16:44; plus 20 laps later-500km: 21:34:36.

Wen-Ya Tsai totalled-290.11 miles, second overall (23:29:19). She is setting the women’s standard this year.
Adrian Papuc reached 275.30 miles for third place overall.
Mahasatya Janczak reached 270.91 miles and looks stronger every day.
Wei-Ming Lo reached 268.17 miles and looks more relaxed.
Vasu Duzhiy reached 265.98 miles and is getting stronger.

The weather was clear today, with breezes and a few wind gusts. The runners, after a very good first day were under the pressure from their bodies expecting to resume the same spirited effort. It is a test of a long day and less sleep and lesser relaxation. Yes, the experienced will just begin going when the starter says go.

By the end of 2 days, the talented maintained their start. Andrea Marcato, after a blistering first day of 88.29 miles, resumed with 82.809 miles to reach 171.6 total miles for Day 2. Adrian Papuc moved into second with a fine day of 73.4 miles, reaching 149.7 total. The big surprise was the second day for Wen-Ya Tsai who ran 132 laps to strengthen her overall place of third, reaching 148.7 miles. Her strength and steadiness brought her already ahead of the other women. and several of the men. Her inspired friend Wei-Ming Lo finished with 144.230 miles, and looked as young as ever for a 59 year-old.

Of course, there is a hidden dilemma to a second fine day in a row. History often shows observers noting that it takes anywhere from 10 to 15 days to lessen the pain and bring a super-long multiday runner to becoming ready and able to continue. The mind wants to stop, but the heart and soul say - “No way we stop”. This is the truth in a way. If the mind says “Go”, then you are ready. Just check to make sure the body is ready, too.

With the largest group of people to see the longest race begin again, the 27th Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race started off with the cheering and screaming for the 14 heroes who dared to test the impossible. 200+ people can wake anyone up at 6:00am. It was a thrill for them as for the runners

The three-time winner Andrea Marcato from Italy and the famous Taiwanese speedster We-Ming Lo took the 5 youngsters to bear (first timers) as they ran if chased by a tiger. A light rain storm came through a few hours later, but the late summer sunshine reappeared to clean the air for all 14 runners. Nine men and five women did their best to calm their nerves and figure out the 0.548406 mile course (882.573 k).

After six or seven hours the fastest started to reach around the course with precision.

The veterans and sterling newcomers garnered the best totals on Day One:

This will spend the next 52 days covering the .5488 of a mile (883.207km) as they seek to cover the necessary distance of 59.618 miles/ 95.946 km per day.

On August 30, 2023 begins the world's longest race. 14 runners - 9 men and five women, will begin the 52 day test of running and recovering.

Each runner will start the event at 6:00 am local time, and attempt to make their abilities respond to the difficulty of that day, that hour, or that moment.

Remember, they are running a course around and around, the course being .5488 of a mile (883.207km). The runners have 18 hours to reach the necessary distance of 59.618 miles/ 95.946 km per day. The midnight stoppage is the endless touch of 'Hurry up and finish'....

Follow the race every day, who knows what will happen and who will designate the movements to come.

After 52 days, the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Race was brought to an end with 11 runners all completing their own personal goals of self-transcendence. Between them the runners completed 31,166 miles in the space of just a few weeks. Stutisheel Lebedev, from Ukraine, completed his goal of 3100 miles in the final evening, bringing his total of finishes to ten.
